Housing That Works for Everyone
Major changes are coming to District 3
Oregon cities are required to update their Housing Needs Analysis every six years. In December 2023, the City of Portland adopted the 2045 Housing Needs Analysis, which determined that the city should plan for approximately 120,000 more housing units by 2045 to meet the needs of its growing population.
As part of the city's efforts to increase housing availability, District 3 has been identified as a key area for new construction. The 2045 Housing Needs Analysis outlines specific development goals for District 3, including:
Increasing the housing density: Building taller buildings and creating more units per acre.
Encouraging a mix of housing types: Developing a variety of housing options, such as apartments, condos, and townhouses, to meet the needs of different households.
Prioritizing affordable housing: Ensuring that a portion of the new housing units are affordable to low- and moderate-income families.
These changes are expected to have a significant impact on District 3.
Affordable and Middle-Income Housing
I will champion policies that increase the availability of affordable and middle-income housing options. By focusing on developments that cater to various income levels, we can ensure District 3 remains a place where everyone can afford to live.
Cooperative Ownership Models
Supporting cooperative ownership initiatives will empower residents to have a stake in their communities, providing long-term stability and investment in our neighborhoods.
Accessible Housing
I am dedicated to promoting housing options that are accessible to seniors and individuals with disabilities, ensuring our district remains inclusive for all.
Protecting Our Health, Our Environment
Opposition to Coal Trains
Coal trains threaten our air quality and public health. I will stand firm against their presence in our neighborhoods, advocating for our right to breathe clean air and live in safe communities.
Environmental Cleanup
Addressing ongoing pollution and environmental hazards is a top priority. I will work to secure funding and implement policies that clean up contaminated sites and improve the overall health of our district.
Green Infrastructure and Sustainability
I will push for investments in green infrastructure and sustainable practices that not only protect our environment but also create healthier and more resilient neighborhoods.
Health of Outdoor Shelter Sites
Evaluating the environmental health of mass shelter locations to identify potential hazards and ensure that people most exposed to the outdoor elements are living in areas without significant health risks.
Compassionate & Informed Support
Stop the Sweeps
Encampment sweeps cause harm to the health, safety, and well-being of those living outside. Often people simply set up a camp somewhere else. Houston has implemented an outreach model that moves people right away into an apartment that we can implement in District 3. I will work to create a compassionate and effective approach to support people experiencing homelessness.
